Your playlist: zombie or vampire?
This NPR blogpost caught my attention, since our little project here once concerned itself with matters both zomboid and vampyre. Plus, it nails what Lyta told my kid when he had to write a paper about Dracula and Twilight and try to fathom the popularity of young, beautiful vampires: “Immortality, duh!”
And it got me wondering. Could your taste in tunes and your choice of flicks be related? I’ve always said that you can tell a lot about a person by asking one question: “Beatles, Stones or Who?” So I peeked at my stuck-in-the-’80s playlist favorites and offer these for your consideration…
B-52s: aliens from outer space. There’s no other choice here.
Beck: zombie, I think. In an “I want to eat your brains and gain your knowledge” postmodern kind of way.
Beethoven: zombie
David Byrne: vampire. too smart to be zombie (with apologies to Mr. McDonald)
Freakwater: definitely zombies
Patty Griffin: vampire. with zombie tendencies.
Joe Henry: still barely human but doomed to be a zombie
Louis Jordan: this one stumps me. He doesn’t seem to fit any horror category, does he?
The Pogues: drunk Irish zombies
Pylon: more zombie than vampire. A little Frankensteinish, actually
The Sadies: those are some spaghetti Western-psychedelic-surf zombie dudes
Soneros de Verdad: maybe if I spoke Spanish I could tell you.
The Stanley Brothers: Zombies for Jesus!
Talking Heads: vampires, don’t you think?
Yes, of course the Sadies are Zombies.
Also, perhaps this answers the question for me, at least.
Beethoven? Zombie? You aren’t listening closely enough. Especially if David Byrne and Talking Heads are vampires.
I will, of course, defend your right to be wrong, etc., etc.
Too.
